Just as Google’s web crawlers browse the World Wide Web to find pages that match certain keywords, the crawling technology at PageFreezer browses your website looking for changes and taking snapshots of your site. It’s an automated process that takes everything off your hands -- you don’t have to remember to do anything. Furthermore, we only archive new pages or changes to your site and use compression to keep storage to a minimum -- saving you money.
Digital Timestamps and Signatures
PageFreezer places a digital signature and digital timestamp on each archived page. The timestamp is evidence of the time the page was archived and the signature provides evidence that the page has not been changed or tampered with since archiving. These features can be used in court to demonstrate that the archived page is an exact replica of the page as it existed on your site at the time it was captured. Your archives can be viewed just as they appeared when they were live, including all rich media, video, and audio.
Archive Storage and Data Export
Comprehensive archiving of your websites is of vital importance in case of investigation or litigation. We understand that you ae trusting PageFreezer to handle your archives responsibly, and to provide exports of your archived data promptly if needed. So we store your archives in two secure locations. We also provide an expedient process for exporting your archives should you require them.
When PageFreezer downloads a web page, it will report a “user agent string” to the web server. You may notice these traces in your server logs:
Due to the nature of regulatory compliance, PageFreezer needs to capture every single file on your site and therefore will ignore robots.txt files. If PageFreezer is causing problems to your web server due to a high number of concurrent requests, please contact us via the support options listed in the introduction. We’ll change the crawl speed within the PageFreezer admin console to a slower pace.
If you need to contact us with a problem, please supply as much diagnostic information as possible. At the least, we will need the user agent string, the accessed URL and the time of the access.
